On December 17, the signing ceremony of the loan agreement on Abidjan Autonomous Port Expansion Project in Cote d'Ivoire undertaken by CHEC was held in the Ministry of Financial and Economic Affairs of Cote d'Ivoire. Turre– Minister of Transport ofCote d'Ivoire, Kappa – Minister of Financial and Economic Affairs ofCote d'Ivoire, Sia– General Manager of Abidjan Autonomous Port, Chinese ambassador Zhang Guoqing to Cote d'Ivoire and the economic and commercial counselor and other relevant people attended the signing ceremony.
Ambassador Zhang Guoqiang hoped that the project construction could improve the infrastructure condition of Abidjan Autonomous Port and promote the reconstruction process of the government of Cote d'Ivoire after the election crisis and pointed out that the Chinese Government and Chinese enterprises would provide help and support for the social and economic development of Cote d'Ivoire as always. MinisterTurre and Minister Kappa said the signing of this loan agreement would bring a new opportunity for the development of Abidjan Port and that they would fulfill the relevant formalities as soon as possible so as to start the construction early and they expressed their thanks to the Chinese government and people for their great support and hoped that Cote d'Ivoire and China could further expand the cooperation fields.
Abidjan Port, as the first largest port in West Africa, has not been improved for nearly 10 years, and the infrastructure input greatly falls behind that in the main ports in Central Africa and West Africa. After the completion of the project, it will increase the throughput of Abidjan Port, enhance the handling efficiency, increase the influence of this port in West Africa and play a positive role in realizing the “2020 Emerging Country Strategy” put forward by the government of Cote d'Ivoire early.
The EPC Business Contract for Abidjan Autonomous Port Expansion Project was officially signed on January 11, 2013 whose contract amount is about USD 933 million and it has been the largest single EPC port project of CHEC so far.
