On December 18, the inauguration ceremony for the principal part of Roberts International Airport Upgrading and Reconstruction Project in Liberia was held at Roberts International Airport. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf - President of Liberia, Joseph Nyumah Boakai - Vice President of Liberia, his Excellency Zhang Yue - the Chinese ambassador to Liberia, main officials of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning of Liberia, Gbehzongar M. Findley - Chairman of Board of Directors of Airport Authority of Liberia and its general manager Wil Bako Freeman, envoys of different countries in Liberia, Li Yi - Vice President of CHEC, Chen Mili - Vice Chief Engineer of CHEC and General Manager of CHEC West Africa Regional Center, Yao Jianguo - General Manager of CCCC Airport Institute attended the ceremony.

In his speech, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf said this project left an indelible mark on the development history of Liberia, made the people of Liberia see the hope of development and also predicted the friendship between China and Liberia would last forever, and he expressed his thanks to the outstanding contribution of CHEC to this.

In his speech, His Excellency Zhang Yue pointed out that this project could overcame the influence of rainy season and applied the advanced technologies, such as BIM+VR to complete the principal part of the project efficiently with high quality, which successfully showed the Chinese characteristics, and he showed his appreciation and thanks to this.

In his speech, Mr. Li Yi indicated that the principal part of this project could not be completed without joint efforts of all parties. He expressed his sincere thanks to government of Liberia, the Chinese embassy in Liberia and Airport Authority of Liberia for their great support, to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning of Liberia and Export-Import Bank of China for their financial support and to colleagues of CHEC for their unremitting efforts. At the same time, he, on behalf of CHEC, exchanged gifts with representatives of Liberia.

At the ceremony, the representatives of Chinese organizations in Liberia, including the 5th Chinese peace-keeping police riot squad in Liberia and University of Liberia Confucius Institute, were invited to attend the ceremony, and they put on excellent performances.

Roberts International Airport Upgrading and Reconstruction Project in Liberia is an EPC project with a contract amount of USD 49.8867 million which is borrowed from Export-Import Bank of China, and the project period is 22 months. The project comprises the new terminal, power system, communication system, water supply and drainage system, fire-fighting system, sewage treatment system, roads inside the airport, parking lot and other relevant facilities. After the project is completed, the annual passenger flow volume of Roberts International Airport will rise to 320,000 person-times.
