President Xi Jinping and Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister Peter O'Neill Attend the Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of China Aid Independence Avenue Project in Papua New Guinea Constructed by CHEC

On November 16, President Xi Jinping and Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister Peter O'Neill attended the hand-over and opening Ceremony of China Aid Independence Avenue Project in Papua New Guinea constructed by CHEC in Port Moresby.
When President Xi Jinping arrived at Independence Avenue, Prime Minister O'Neill greeted him at the parking place. And then the two leaders walked down the red carpet to the VIP seats. Both sides of the newly completed Independence Avenue were hung with the national flag of China and Papua New Guinea and the bright red Chinese knots, which is full of festive atmosphere. Mr. Liu Qitao, Party Secretary and Chairman of CCCG, Mr. Chen Zhong -General Manager of CCCG Overseas Business Department, Mr. Tang Qiaoliang – President of CHEC, and representatives of Chinese engineers and technicians involved in the construction of the Independence Avenue stood at one side of the red carpet, shaking hands with President Xi Jinping and giving warm applause to the leaders of the two countries. People of Papua New Guinea dressed in local special costumes danced unique tribal folk dances, warmly welcoming the most distinguished guests.
After the opening ceremony started, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister O'Neill gave speeches, respectively.
President Xi Jinping first expressed sincere thanks and warm congratulations to the engineers and technicians of the two countries who jointly participated in the road construction. President Xi Jinping pointed out that Papua New Guinea was about to host the 26th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, a grand event for Papua New Guinea and even the entire Pacific island region. As a good friend and partner of Papua New Guinea, China has been providing support and assistance for Papua New Guinea to hold the meeting within its capacity. The Independence Avenue connects the deep friendship between the Chinese people and the people of Papua New Guinea and carries the good wishes of the Chinese people to the people of Papua New Guinea. China's construction enterprises ensure the completion of the project as scheduled with the highest standards and at the fastest speed. It is believed that Independence Avenue will bring more convenience and prosperity to local people. China is willing to enhance mutual trust, expand exchanges and strengthen cooperation with Papua New Guinea to jointly plan a road of prosperity, openness and friendship.
Prime Minister O'Neill said he was very glad to attend the opening ceremony of Independence Avenue together with President Xi Jinping, and expressed thanks to China for its long - term assistance to Papua New Guinea. “This project is a symbol of Papua New Guinea's friendship with China and reflects China's important support for Papua New Guinea. Today is another important moment for Papua New Guinea's relations with China. The opening of Independence Avenue will be a milestone in the bilateral relations between China and Papua New Guinea. China is a good friend of Papua New Guinea. The Chinese friends are welcome to Papua New Guinea. Papua New Guinea has a long way to go in its development. We are ready to maintain a strong partnership with China.”
After giving the speeches, the two leaders jointly pulled open the red silk covering the project logo. Independence Avenue was officially put into use.
As President Xi Jinping left, thousands of people from different tribes in Papua New Guinea, dressed in colorful costumes, stood on both sides of the road, waving national flags or dancing to express their joy and welcome.
Mr. Ding Xuexiang, Ms. Yang Jiechi, Mr. Wang and Mr. He Lifeng were also present.
The China Aid Independence Avenue Project in Papua New Guinea was constructed by CHEC. It is the main road connecting the Parliament Building of Papua New Guinea and Municipal Services Building, which will provide more convenient and fast traffic conditions for the local area. The 1.06km-long road has two-way six lanes, with a design speed of 50km/h. Since the construction started on April 1, 2018, the constructors of CHEC have overcome all difficulties and completed the construction tasks on schedule with high quality, which is highly recognized by Papua New Guinea. The quality of the project is rated as the highest level by the Bureau of International Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce.
