Hangzhou Bay Bridge
Hangzhou Bay is famous for Qiantan Tide, one of the strongest tides in China. The area was the subject of many studies by experts who all concluded that it is an extremely difficult area for marine construction. Nevertheless, Hangzhou Bay Bridge tranquilly stretches out into the bay to demonstrate a triumph over nature. The Bridge is 36km long of which the offshore section is 32.7km long. Due to the complex tidal conditions in Hangzhou Bay, the construction made use of precast sections. The longest element was a steel pipe pile of 84m long by 1.6m diameter. Hangzhou Bay Bridge also has a viewing platform of 10,000sqm in the middle of the southern section.
